upcycled sweater turned into cardigan

This was another upcycling project.

Basis was a lambswool sweater.

I cut the front in half in the middle, crocheted around all edges and sides

and transformed it into a cardigan.

Dit was nog een upcycle project.

De basis was een lamswollen trui.

Ik heb middenvoor doormidden geknipt, langs alle randen en hoeken een randje gehaakt

en hem getransformeerd tot een vest.

My Apple shirt looked a bit boring.

So I changed the sleeves!

En dit doe je dus met een saai Apple shirtje:

je vervangt de mouwen!

new knitting loom in da house :-)

The knitting loom has a slightly addictive effect, I just HAD to buy this one shown.

You can make bigger projects with it such as socks (not my favorite; a lot of work and you don't get to see much of the endresult), wristwarmers, fingerless gloves etc.

If you knit a small piece on it you have a nice bracelet!

Het punniken begint verslavend te worden, ik MOEST gewoon onderstaande aanschaffen.

Met deze kun je grotere projecten maken zoals sokken (niet mijn favoriet; een hoop werk en van het eindresultaat zie je nooit echt veel), polswarmers, vingerloze handschoentjes etc.

Als je een klein stukje erop breit heb je een leuke armband!

upcycled cardigan

A couple of years ago I knitted a black bolero (a short cardigan) 

but didn't wear it very often.

I almost threw it away when I realised I could still spice the thing up.

So yes, here I am again with "just add 2 square pieces of knitwork", 

one for the shoulders, one for the bodice and you're done.

The great surprise with the big bodice-part is that it is so heavy, 

it kind of flows into a nice shape around the torso.

It's  a really nice thing to wear during winter, 

the warmth on the back is magnificent.

Een aantal jaar geleden heb ik een zwarte bolero (kort vestje) gebreid, 

maar ik droeg het eigenlijk nooit.

Ik had het bijna weggegooid toen ik me bedacht dat ie nog best gepimpt kon worden.

Dus ja, daar gaan we weer, "je hoeft alleen maar 2 rechte lappen te breien", 

eentje voor de schouders, eentje voor het lijf en je bent klaar.

Een fijne verrassing met het lijfdeel is dat het zo zwaar is 

dat het zich a.h.w. om je lijf heen voegt.

Het is een heerlijk vest voor de winter, de warmte op de rug is fenomenaal.

Je kunt de meest gekke wolsoorten krijgen tegenwoordig, zoals deze, die voorzien is van veertjes.

I love the effect of the delicate thin linen thread.

I used 2 colors and knitted around the darkgreen necklace with lightgreen.

Het effect van het dunne linnen draad vind ik prachtig mooi geslaagd.

Ik heb 2 kleuren gebruikt en heb de donkergroene ingebreid in de lichtgroene.

working with the knitting dolly/aan het werk met de punnikklos

Currently I'm working with the materials shown below.

I've created a mobile working spot in my kitchen, 

where I can sit in front of the window and work in daylight.

 It's also a fun way to see people pass by and peak in and watch curiously 

(but quickly!) what I'm doing.

Op het moment werk ik met de onderstaande materialen.

In mijn keuken heb ik een mobiele werkplek gecreëerd waar ik voor mijn raam kan werken en op die manier optimaal van het daglicht gebruik kan maken.

Het is ook grappig om te zien wie er voorbij loopt en even (heel snel!) een nieuwsgierige blik naar binnen werpt en bekijkt wat ik aan het doen ben.

Part of my personal "manual" is that I need to work with lots of colors on a daily basis. It cheers me up every time.


Het is een deel van mijn persoonlijke "gebruiksaanwijzing" dat ik iedere dag met kleuren moet werken. Ik word er iedere keer weer vrolijk van.

By the way, with very special thanks to my cousin Kitty, who has been so kind to lend me these yarns so that I could experiment with it.


Overigens wil ik mijn nicht Kitty bedanken voor het uitlenen van deze garens. Op die manier kan ik er lekker mee experimenteren.

And these are the famous "punnikklosjes" or knitting dollies. 


En dit is dan mijn verzameling punnikklosjes.

What I'm currently experimenting with is very thin linen yarn and small beads.

I make necklaces with it.

Results can be admired tomorrow!

Op het moment experimenteer ik met dun linnen garen en kleine kraaltjes.

Ik maak er kettingen mee.

Resultaten zijn morgen te bewonderen!

cotton necklace using a knitting dolly/punniken met katoen

This is one of the first pieces of jewelry I made using the knitting dolly.

In case the term "knitting dolly" is unfamiliar for the non-dutch people who read this: it was the only translation I could find for a very dutch piece of craftwork: the "punnikklos".

What I basically mean with this dolly is that it is a device where you can knit in a circle or a loom. 

So knitting loom would also be a correct translation I suppose.

This particular one only has 4 spikes on top of it to work with and 

children in kindergarden get their first go at it usually. Result is a thick cord.

When I use my dolly in public, the usual remark I get is 

"wow, I used this for the first and last time when I was about 5!"

For now, I will use the term knitting dolly, found on the wrapping of my "punnikklos" ;-)

Anyway, I used cotton for this necklace, so it doesn't get too hot around the neck.

And in the near future I will show more magic coming from this dolly.

Dit is het eerste sieraad wat ik gepunnikt heb.

Het heeft nog best wat hoofdbrekens gekost om de term punniken goed te vertalen naar het engels, 

ik hoop dat het voor de engelslezenden te volgen valt...

Wat leuk is is dat er altijd gereageerd wordt als je met zo'n ding in het openbaar aan het werk bent.

"Op de lagere school heb ik die voor het laatst gebruikt!"

Anyhoe, ik heb voor deze ketting katoen gebruikt, zodat het niet te warm is om de nek.

In de nabije toekomst laat ik nog meer magische resultaten zien van de punnikklos.

This necklace was made out of silverthread and beads with a leaf shape.

First I crocheted 3 strands with leafs.

The first and last 7 cm of each strand were without any beads.

Then the silver part of the 3 strands were put into a braid.

Voila.

Deze ketting is gemaakt van zilverdraad en bladvormige kralen.

Eerst heb ik 3 strengen met blaadjes gehaakt.

De eerste en laatste 7 cm van elke streng zijn gehaakt zonder kralen.

Het zilveren deel van deze 3 strengen heb ik weer samen gevlochten.

Voila.

Needed: transparant thread, small beads and a knitting dolly.

Put the beads on the thread before you start, start knitting on the knitting dolly, every now and then add a beat to your work. 

Done

Kraaltjes aan draad rijgen, punniken opstarten, zo hier en daar een kraal meepunniken.

This is what I also do: wrap up stones.

This one has been wrapped up in real silverthread.

Stone itself is about 1,5 cm high.

En hier houd ik me ook mee bezig: stenen inpakken.

Deze is ingehaakt met echt zilverdraad.

Steen zelf is denk ik 1 a 1,5 cm groot.

This is also a way to do it, not silverthread, but silvercolored thread.

It is not af fine as with silverthread though.

Zo kan het ook natuurlijk, geen zilverdraad, wel zilverkleurig draad. 

Wordt wat grover, dat wel.

Dit doe ik ook: haken met echt zilverdraad.

Dan krijg je o.a. dit

Nice little thing, a summer cardigan. I think the material is a blend of wool and silk

Leuk dingetje, zo'n zomervestje. Is meen ik een blend van wol en zijde.

knitted skirt/de gebreide rok

The "piece de resistance": the knitted skirt. A lot of work, but worth every stitch. This one is made of sockwool and with shortened needles for the ruffle-effect.

Het piece de resistance: de gebreide rok. Een enorme klus, maar elke steek waard.
Deze is gemaakt van sokkenwol en (voor de kenners en liefhebbers) met verkorte naalden aan de onderkant; daar krijg je dus dat roesjes effect mee.

granny square slippers/oma's vierkantjes sloffen

Needed: 6 granny squares per slipper and assemble.

Crochet a nice edging to it, done :-)

Men neme: per slof 6 "granny squares" en zette het in elkaar.

Gehaakt randje eromheen, klaar :-)
